The first results of the BioCover project were presented in the ‘III Simposio de suelo-planta’ organized by the Asociación española de ecología terrestre hold the 6 and 7 of June in Barcelona. The symposium brought together both national and international researchers within the thematic area of ‘good agronomic practices and climate and global change’. Dr. Laura Lozano de Sosa made an oral presentation entitled ‘Evaluation of key indicators of soil quality under different management of Mediterranean tree crops’ in which the results of a comparative study of two experimental areas with climatic conditions and soil systems were shown. Similar irrigation that have traditionally been managed under conventional or organic agriculture were compared. Both experimental areas presented identical agricultural exploitation systems (hedgerow olive and almond cultivation) for which a comparison of key indicators of soil quality and fertility was carried out. In this case, the type of management significantly influenced most of the indicators evaluated, finding a tendency for soils managed under organic farming to present a less degraded state of the soil.
